top ten things we have learned

We've been here for 10 days and it's the first time it has rained. We woke up in our adorably charming apartment at 12:30 and proceeded to make a delicious breakfast and watch the presidential debate on our laptops. We are seriously considering starting a "Spain against McCain Club" and since he doesn't want to meet with the prime minister here we have a feeling the club will be quite popular.

In an effort to document our first ten days, here is a list of one thing we have learned with each day.

Day One: We over packed.
Day Two: Sevilla is small but we still manage to get lost in the windy cobblestone roads (would be frustrated but it's just so damn beautiful).
Day Three: Responding to apartment and job flyers at the University is both rewarding and effective but a lot of crazies end up with your phone number.
Day Four: Hostels suck (snoring man with giant gross dirty feet next to Erin's head warranted the Norwegian couple to leave in the middle of the night willing Erin their Time Magazine)
Day Five: We discovered Jersey in Spain (and we almost lived there).
Day Six: We love Spanish men and their dogs (especially when they find us an apartment). Movies about Che always end before the controversy starts no matter what language you watch it in.
Day Seven: It only takes two meals to be a regular at Alex's (salad, Spanish omelettes, and a bottle of wine make a three hour meal that ends at midnight normal).
Day Eight: MOVE IN DAY! repeat from day 1, we over packed. Met the Jordanian Falalfel man named Salem who once lived in Yonkers and his right hand man, Ahmad. They have a note in their restaurant that reads "Amy y Erin (vecinos favoritos)." Spanish washing machines are challenging and have a tendency to make white items lavender. Exhibit A: Amy's bra is now purple.
Day Nine: Amy's commute to work, three hours (at least the bus driver was cute).
Day Ten: We are reading Don Quixote in Spanish. Yeah we are bad asses. Flamenco women, or men?
Day Eleven: Presidential debate on our laptops, enough said. It's 5:30pm and we are in our pajamas.

*food addendum*
1. Chocolate and ice cream are amazing and in plenty. We alternate between chocolate and ice cream days.
2. Wine is cheap and great but Sangria is nasty.
3. Erasmus students depleted the bar of its beer stock
4. Picos
5. The Spanish version of "American Tex-Mex" at the Dallas Lone Star Bar watching American football games was more or less inedible...but of course, we ate it.
